So this is old news now, but i'm catching up on a shit load of missed posts and i just had to do this one first. Not only does he give un to us some epic words of wisdom (Waits standard), he gives amazing performances (Waits standard) and couldn't be any cooler about it either (Waits standard).
Here's a round up of the night (but you've seen it already right?):
Josh Homme said in an interview with Zane Lowe, something along the lines of, he doesn't get why people either love or hate him because they don't know him, which is fair enough, but i'm already in love with the guy. (So tough shit Homme.)
But just when i thought i couldn't be a bigger fan of the ginger beast or QOTSA, i found this amazing interview posted up on Some Kind of Awesome.
(it's a 2 parter)
Alan Cross (ExploreMusic) conducts one of the most engrossing Josh/Troy interviews i have ever seen. Not because it's some kind of psychiatrist session delving into his personal life, (it's about the music silly), but because i felt that i learnt more about the band's logic and why they do what they do.
I've decided not to discuss what goes down in the video, that'll just ruin it for you; but it's shocking, funny and enlightening. Highlights include: Homme whipping off his glasses in the emotional bit, the new ideas they've got, their view on pushing boundaries and the stuff about the re-release.
(Found this pic on google, sorry if you own it. Don't get pissy at me for using it, i think it's sweeeeet that's all. Much love.)
Found this gem on my beloved Platform. It's a punk version of 'Tina' by 'Tyler, The Creator' by some guys called 'The Senior Citizens'. Trust me, it's SWAG. . . . . . . .
Actually the title's quite deceiving, oh get me being all mischievous. . . .
Yeah enough of the 'Baby Back Bullshit' (phrase stolen from Epic Meal Time, housemates and i are obsessed, we even recreated the pizza, but that's for another post).
Arctic Monkeys have released a track and video entitled 'Brick By Brick', (get my title now?). Anyways i have a few comments to make, but 'stick with it', (commonly used saying amongst the housemates).
Firstly the time spent with Mr Homme has clearly been taken on board, good lads. I mean just listen to the riffs on this baby, if they're not as a result of working with 'Carlo Von Sexron' then well. . . .it just is ok. I hold a completely biased view that most good music released today is some how related to Josh Homme. Going off topic. . .
Secondly, there's vinyl in the video which is great. You've got to keep the guys and gals who buy vinyl now because it's currently experiencing a 'cool' boost happy. But no, i think it has more to do with the (sorry for using this word) 'retro'/60's sound, (dare i say it, The Beatles-esc) vibe i'm getting from the track.
Lastly, the lyrics are pretty Plain Jane/Simple Simon; i mean you definitely won't be forgetting the title of the track any time soon, (it's 'Brick By Brick' by the way) oh and i wish the track was just a liiiiittle bit longer.
All in all, I LIKE IT. Maybe after a few more plays i'll love it, maybe. Haters pipe down about them not sounding northern anymore, seeeeesh! It's called musical development/(selling out/appealing to the masses). No, i kid, or do i? No i do.
Looking forward to what they come up with next. . . .
